Empath is a concert series aimed towards cultivating an open-minded dialogue about current and social affairs through the medium of art, specifically music. These evenings include food, wine, chamber music and thoughtful discussions that bridge music history and modern topics. The purpose is to create a stronger connection between the performers and audience where each individual can share their experiences, knowledge, and thoughts. The concept was envisioned by Emma Hays Johnson and Celaya Kirchner and was inspired by their love of chamber music with friends.
Empath's Opening Concert: The Iter Trio
Our first concert on May 18, 2019 was a huge success! The Iter trio played works by Dohnanyi and Bach and held discussions around the topic of Nationalism. "Stay tuned" for our future concerts.
The Iter Trio is a newly formed string trio based out of Washington D.C. Their name comes from the Latin word for "journey".
“We need to give each other the space to grow, to be ourselves, to exercise our diversity. We need to give each other space so that we may both give and receive such beautiful things as ideas, openness, dignity, joy, healing, and inclusion.”-Jacqeline Du Pre
